Story Summary:
Walt Disney's film, The Princess and the Frog, begins in 1913 with a mother reading to her daughter, Tiana, and her daughter's best friend, Charlotte La Bouff. The story happens to be The Frog Prince, Charlotte adores the story and finds it very romantic; however, Tiana reveals that she would never kiss a frog.
It fast forwards a few years, the year is now 1926, Tiana has become quite the hard-worker, she works two jobs in hopes of earning enough money to fulfill her diseased father's dream of opening a restaurant. The Prince of Maldonia, Prince Naveen, comes to New Orleans to help gain back his fortune by marrying Charlotte, due to the fact that his parents cut him off of their fortune. That night, Charlotte plans a huge masquerade ball to help celebrate the prince's arrival. Charlotte hires Tiana to cater the event so that Tiana can put down a down payment on an old sugar mill that she wants to convert into her restaurant. Meanwhile, Prince Naveen and his valet Lawrence are exploring New Orleans and they run into Dr. Facilier, a voodoo witch doctor, who convinces them that he can make all of their dreams come true. Dr. Facilier turns the prince into a frog and disguises Lawrence with a voodoo charm, as the prince, in hopes that Lawrence will marry Charlotte and he can kill Charlotte's father and take his fortune. During the ball Tiana meets Naveen after finding out that she may have lost the sugar mill to someone with a higher bid. Naveen saw Tiana's costume for the ball and asks her to kiss him because he must kiss a princess to turn back into a prince. After a lot of convincing Tiana finally kisses Naveen but, only if he gives her the rest of the money she needs to buy the mill. The curse isn't broken, and instead turns Tiana into a frog too. Tiana and Naveen barely escape the ball alive and head to a bayou. At the bayou Tiana and Naveen meet Louis and Ray. Louis is a alligator who wants to be human and can play the trumpet. Ray is an adorable firefly who is convinced that when fireflies die that they turn into stars. These two new friends help guide Tiana and Naveen to a good voodoo priestess, Mama Odie, and along the way Tiana and Naveen's relationship starts to develop. Back in town, Dr. Facilier promises voodoo spirits the souls of the New Orlean's population in exchange for their help in finding Prince Naveen. Mama Odie tells Tiana and Naveen that they must kiss a princess in order to get changed back into humans. The crew all go back to New Orleans to find Charlotte because she is the princess of the Mardi Gras Parade, and they only have until midnight. Naveen is captured by the demons before he can tell Tiana that he loves her, luckily he had already told Ray that he loves her and would be willing to give up his dreams for her. Ray ends up telling Tiana that Naveen is in love with her. Tiana goes back to New Orleans in time to see Lawrence disguised as Naveen marry Charlotte. Tiana is heartbroken; however, while this is happening Louis and Ray are able to find the real Naveen and steal the voodoo charm. Ray is able to give the charm, but is sadly killed trying to fight off the demons so that Tiana could escape. Dr. Facilier tells Tiana that he'll make her dreams come true if she gives him the charm, but instead she breaks it and the demons come and claim Facilier and his soul to pay off his debts. Tiana and Naveen are able to confess their love to each other. Charlotte kisses Naveen, but it is too late. Tiana and Naveen both decide to just stay together as frogs and are wed by Mama Odie. Tiana, who is no technically a princess, kisses Naveen and turns them back into humans. Now, Naveen and Tiana are able to open up the restaurant and live happily ever after in New Orleans. |
